Yorgen Fenech acquitted of complicity in the murder
A jury returned an 8-1 not-guilty verdict clearing businessman Yorgen Fenech of complicity in the assassination and of criminal association. Fenech's defence argued that the real instigator was Keith Schembri, former chief of staff at the Office of the Prime Minister, an allegation Schembri denies. The verdict does not affect the convictions already handed down to the men who planted and supplied the bomb.
